World famous model, Gisele Bundchen, recently reflected on how meditation has helped her to manage her anxiety and panic attacks.
She said:
“I think the breathing and meditation daily really helped me because it helped center me. It helped me become the observer versus being in the middle of the storm.”
Her daily practice is a good guide as to what it takes to change from having the mind control you to you controlling your mind.
Mindfulness meditation is really a mind training exercise. A simple ” daily dosage” of 20 minutes a day can be a very potent in controlling anxiety without drugs.
Our bodies need regular exercise to stay fit, so do our minds. Mindfulness is a simple “pushup” for the mind. A daily practice yields many Healthy-Mind benefits.
Try a daily practice with a teacher, or use one of the many mindfulness apps available to help guide you. A twenty-eight day commitment is a good amount of time to experiment with how it works for you.
While the gold standard is 30 to 45 minutes a day for 8 weeks, – that is the time frame used for most of the research proving the benefits of mindfulness – a shorter duration can still be used to get a good sense of how it works for you.
If it helps people like supermodel Gisele with anxiety and panic attacks, it can work for you, too.
